A Jefferson woman has amassed a win worth nearly a half-million dollars from the Georgia Lottery. Dawn Ferry, 48, is one of two winners from the April 10 Fantasy 5 drawing to match all five numbers, each winning a $479,532 jackpot prize.
The winning numbers from the April 10 Fantasy5 drawing were: 9-10-20-21-29.
Dry Pond Country Store, 4661 Highway 82 N. in Commerce, sold the winning ticket. The second jackpot-winning ticket was sold in Bloomingdale.
Ferry said that she selected her own winning combination, which included her mother’s birthday, her own birthday and the birth months of her nephew, niece and sister.
“The last two numbers, 20 and 21, were random,” she said. “They’re a part of my favorite numbers now.”
Following the televised drawing, Ferry checked the results of the drawing on the Georgia Lottery’s Mobile App.
“I kept saying, ‘There’s absolutely no way,’ ” she recalled. “I’m still in a little bit of a shock.”
With her winnings, Ferry intends to invest and save.
“I’m looking forward to retirement,” she said.
Ferry claimed her prize April 11 at the Georgia Lottery’s District Office in Duluth.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $17 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.7 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.4 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
Though many skeptics remain, the lottery is still one sure way of living at least a decent life with some of the winnings. The winners can’t be denied, and the money is always going to be an incentive to play this illusive game of luck.
The saying has been around for a long time, “you gotta be in it to win it”!
Good luck and play responsibly!
